About Us
The Mission of IDS
The underlying mission of the IDS is:
- Teaching and guiding learning on various aspects of development within the University of Dar es Salaam.
- Pursuing interdisciplinary teaching/learning across the university.
- Producing experts on development
- Conducting scientific research and studies on aspects of development and disseminating the findings arising from such researches and studies to relevant organizations, individuals and groups
- Providing advisory services within and outside the country
- Influencing appropriate policy changes for development at all levels; and hence acts as a preferred centre for opinion setting and change management
Objectives of the Institute
- To instruct undergraduate and postgraduate students in problems of national and international development with special focus on Third World Development problems.
- To undertake research, either on its own or in collaboration with other persons or organizations in the field of development
- To offer consultancy services within and outside the University either on its own or in partnership with others persons of organizations engaged in development research activities.
- To promote and conduct activities which enhance the generation and /or dissemination of knowledge in the field of Development studies.
- To forge, maintain, encourage and extend good working relations with other persons or organizations either nationally or internationally. In all its work, the Institute shall adopt an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach.
