The
Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is both a teaching and research centre
at the University of Dar es Salaam. The
vision of the IDS is to develop knowledge and skills that can contribute effectively to scientific
inquiry into the nature, causes and impacts of global social, economic,
political, cultural and technological changes on development.
The IDS offers graduate programmes leading to Masters and PhD degrees
in Development Studies. It also services
university faculties in teaching Development Studies for first year
undergraduate students and offers DS optional courses for continuing students.
The IDS Research Agenda serves to provide a broad frame on the basis of
which specific research programmes are designed and carried out. In addition, the IDS executes general
consultancy assignments and provides services to the general public.
